Hello, I have a z370 Xtreme 4 and I need to update the bios to use my new 9 gen CPU but I don't have any 8 gen, so my question is if I can start the motherboard with my 6 gen i5, just to update the bios

that wont work. Only 8th and 9th gen CPUs are supported on Z390. Z270 only supports 6th and 7th gen.


Maybe refund the CPU and get something on an alive platform, like Ryzen 5000 or Intel 11th gen, if not then try to buy a decent Z390 board

You cannot use a Z270 board with any 8th or 9th gen CPU. 8th and 9th gen use a different version of the 1151 socket which is physically the same electrically different. You would have to get a new board.
