Well it will delete the volume that's on the drive, converting it to raw unused space and will allow you to format that partition.

What are you after? Do you want to move the OS to that drive or just use the SSD as storage? If it's just for storage, "Delete Volume"-ing the 232 GB partition and formatting it afterwards should be fine, just don't touch the EFI one as you'll break your installation.

Oh and as always make a backup of important stuff before messing with drives and formatting, do at your own risk yada yada.

If there's nothing important on the SSD just format it?

Just open cmd as administrator, type diskpart, type list disk and it should show the ssd, if it does show the ssd

Select disk (whichever one is the ssd)

Clean

Create partition primary

Select partition 1

Active? (Unsure if this is needed im basing off a bootable usb tutorial)

Format fs=ntfs quick

And your ssd should be detected by windows now

I think you have to do Delete Volume first. BUT since it mentions the EFI system partition is on that SSD, I would first check if Windows still boots if you unplug the SSD.

Well that answers my previous comment. If you completely format that drive you won't be able to boot Windows as the bootloader is on the SSD.

Stupid windows restrictions

Then just give in and switch to linux, itll be better for ppl that only do basic tasks and no gaming cause it will basically update forever and will not have the telemetry and bloat of w10 and there arent many viruses that can infect linux so safer from viruses too

If you dont wanna give in then maybe just go into ubuntu and go into the terminal and format the ssd that way xD, cause for all i know linux doesnt have all the bs restrictions windows has so itll prob do it without confirmation or a bs error.

Itll be more detrimental if you cant even fking boot windows and recover your data

Wanna be scared to damage your laptop or 4 real lose your data or go through the hassle of reinstalling windows?

Like come on, i know its abit "scary" to dissasemble a laptop but is it really worth being scared and having your data be lost?

This is nonsense.

These restrictions are there for a reason. Doing what you say will break his installation because the EFI partition is on the SSD...

firstly, this laptop is new it practically has no data on the sdd yet we're just trying to install the windows on the ssd. secondly the delete volume thing worked thanks to @tikker

Just stop it with this aggressive bullshit. Data loss is not immenent nor the only option here. We don't even know yet what the goal is. If the OS needs to be moved to the SSD then yes it'll be more difficult, but if they just want to reclaim the Ubuntu partition and use it for storage this can safely be done without data loss.

Good to hear! This is something that can happen with Windows. I don't know exactly why it sometimes moves the bootloader to another drive, but this is why it's recommended to unplug all drives except the OS one when installing Windows. Of course this isn't necessarily an option if you just buy a laptop.
