Hi!

I have been following Linus channel for maybe a year now and have finally become brave enough to try and build my first rig! I will only use this computer for gaming and already have a 1080p Display. Please be so kind and give your advice on the parts I´ve choosen (eny bottlenecks or overkills, other brands etc.) I´m from Finland so the prices may seem strange from your point of view :P

My future build:

Motherboard: MSI z87-G45-Gaming = 129,90€ (Overkill?)

CPU: i5-4670K= 218€ (Overkill for gaming ?)

GPU: Asus GTX 770 OC 2gb GDDR5 = 289€ (Is nvidia the way to go ?)

Memory: Team Group 8bg Vulcan Series Dual-channel kit 2400 MHZ, CL 11 = 74,90€ (Never heard of the company but a very good price)

Power Supply: Corsair 750W 80+ Bronze = 83,90€ (Enough for future 770 SLI ?)

GPU cooler: Noctua NH-U14S = 69,90€ (Is there a better looking one with same performance?)

Case: Define R4 Black Pearl Window ATX = 119€

Total cost: 984,60€

My plan is to sli 2 770 later on when one 770 doesn´t get the job done enymore. I´m used to playing on a gaming laptop so 30 fps with high settings doesn´t bother me but I would love to feel how beatifull 60 fps on ultra would be :). Keep in mind that I aim for a computer with good price/performence that somewhat is futureproof. In Finland the 780 is 500€ and the 780TI is 700€ which I find too expencive for its performance. I will not game on more then one display which is a 1080p.

Please give your opinion or advice!

Thx for your Time!

This is a pretty good build. I would change the RAM to 1866/1600MHz, possibly Corsair Vengeance Pro and save a little money. The Dark Rock 2 and Shadow Rock 2 both look better than the noctua in my opinion, but the Shadow Rock won't perform as well.

Ram is overkill don't need 2400mhz, better off buying a better brand of memory rather than paying for more speed.

Spoiler

Corsair 400C- Intel i7 6700- Gigabyte Gaming 6- GTX 1080 Founders Ed. - Intel 530 120GB + 2xWD 1TB + Adata 610 256GB- 16GB 2400MHz G.Skill- Evga G2 650 PSU- Corsair H110- ASUS PB278Q- Dell u2412m- Logitech G710+ - Logitech g700 - Sennheiser PC350 SE/598se

Is it just me or is Grammar slowly becoming extinct on LTT?

Its pretty good, im againest the noctua, thats for the extreme and i doubt you will go crazy on your first go, id go for a coolermaster 212 evo, its worse but the bang for buck is way better, with that extra money get a better psu, the watts is fine but you could get a high quality efficiency.

That ram price is crazy(£1=$0.61) and 2400mhz ram is £130 here. Go for it.

On a side note as its your first time, DONT BUILD ON A CARPET, dont scratch your hair, when handling each part make sure you touch the case when you take stuff out of the anti static bag, products are more robust these days but they can still break.

cpu: intel i5 4670k @ 4.5ghz Ram: G skill ares 2x4gb 2166mhz cl10 Gpu: GTX 680 liquid cooled cpu cooler: Raijintek ereboss Mobo: gigabyte z87x ud5h psu: cm gx650 bronze Case: Zalman Z9 plus

Listen if you care.

Cpu: intel i7 4770k @ 4.2ghz Ram: G skill  ripjaws 2x4gb Gpu: nvidia gtx 970 cpu cooler: akasa venom voodoo Mobo: G1.Sniper Z6 Psu: XFX proseries 650w Case: Zalman H1

Looks pretty good, but I don't think that you need 2400 MHz RAM, 1866 would be fine.

Case: Corsair Vengeance C70 Gunmetal Black CPU: i7-4770k Cooler: Corsair H100i RAM: 8gb Corsair Vengeance Pro GPU: ASUS Direct CUII 770 MOBO: Asus Maximus VI Hero PSU: EVGA Supernova 1000 G2

Get a Gigabyte motherboard instead. Heck if you can find an affordable Asus one go with that instead too. In regards to the psu look at Antec or Seasonic. As for the cooler I think you meant cpu cooler and for that you should look at a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Direct Touch 4 Heatpipe Heatsink AM2 AM3 1366/1150/1155/1156/2011 as it is effective and cheaper than what you picked.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

Are you buying the parts from Jimm's? I'd suggest getting them from Mindfactory. They are a German company and have a lot lower prices. The shipping is the only minus point if you buy from there. Otherwise, that will be a beast of build.

Also, welcome to the community.

I'm not sure where in Europe you are making your purchase, so I selected Deutschland.

PCPartPicker part list: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/3lnLi

Price breakdown by merchant: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/3lnLi/by_merchant/

Benchmarks: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/3lnLi/benchmarks/

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  (€194.90 @ Caseking) <-- Perfect for gaming, nothing more, nothing less

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  (€33.00 @ Amazon Deutschland) <--Great aftermarket cooler for overclocking if you want, and much more quiet than the stock cooler

Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (€97.23 @ Hardwareversand)<--The least expensive Z87, SLI capable motherboard.  Motherboard doesn't impact performance, get the least expensive Z87 and SLI capable you can find.

Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (€59.90 @ Caseking) <-- Good, inexpensive RAM.  Get the least expensive 1600Mhz, 9-9-9-24 1.5v RAM you can find.

Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  (€56.97 @ Amazon Deutschland)<--You will want an SSD, this is an inexpensive one.

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (€48.98 @ Pixmania DE)<-- If you already have an HDD, use that

Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card  (€459.90 @ Amazon Deutschland)<-- You will want a GTX 780, especially with your budget, you can afford one.  Nothing impacts performance more than GPU, spend as much as you can on a GPU!

Case: BitFenix Shinobi ATX Mid Tower Case  (€11.90 @ Caseking)<-- Case does not impact performance, get the least expensive case that you like.  This is a really good choice.  If you get another, make sure the width is at least 200mm to fit the Hyper 212 EVO

Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  (€57.84 @ Amazon Deutschland)<-- This is a good, inexpensive PSU.  If you can find another that is less expensive, go for it.  Must be from a reputable company, and 80+ bronze certified or better, and have a single 12v rail with at least 42A on the 12v Rail.

Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer  (€13.49 @ Amazon Deutschland) <-- Not really necessary, but nice to have one just in case.

Total: €1034.11

(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

For just 50 Euros more, you will get a LOT more performance.  Buy the best graphics card you can afford. Nothing, and I mean nothing impacts performance more than your GPU.  Graphics card should be 40-50% of your overall budget.

Ohh god this community is amazing :) thx for all the answers!

Forgot to mention the storage but will buy the cheapest 1 TB 7200 rpm I´ll find (around 60-70€). Have never tried SSD so can't say if it's worth paying double the price for 1/4 storage :P (150€)

Some parts are from Jimmspcstore and some from multitronic. Don´t know if I´m confortable with ordering from germany, sweden would work but as for now it´s only more expencive over there because of currencies.

Yee the ram is very cheap for 2400 MHz, haven´t understand the impact of diffrent CAS so Kingston 1600 MHZ Cas 9 for 75€ is better ?

And yes, CPU-cooling. Have very little knowlede of cooling overrall so just took the Noctua because alot of youtubers had recommended it on their channels :P

Keep em answers cooooomiiing :D

The motherboard was maybe the hardest to pick because there are so many features to choose between and the price diffrence wasn't big between the boards so I just picked a good looking one with many features lol :D

Didnt se the last post ...  Thanx for putting the time and effort, germany sure sound cheap lol :P maybe need to change my mind aroud that.

Yeah my friend bought his parts from Mindfactory and got the fairly quick, maybe in 1 week. I think he saved like 100 euros when buying from there.

Game dont benefit much from Ram's frequency so... 1600 or 1866 mhz is ok. For SSD I really recommend you get a 120SSD and just install the OS on it. You will never want to go back once you try SSD

for CPU Cooling if you're not sure just go with air cooling, I'd suggest Hyper 212 EVO.

The MSI Z87 G45 is a good motherboard. I almost choose it myself :P but I tend to mess around with stuff like OC etc so I think I will go over to GD65, but G45 is still a very good one

I do think the 4670k is overkill, but I use my 2500k for 3 years now and it still has like crazy more cpu horsepower than i need. so it is a long term investment. and when you reach the cap, just overclock.

On the APU it actually matters a lot.

If your CPU is still working fine, dont waste money to upgrade it. New stuff like Haswell-E are coming out soon, so only upgrade when you're running out of juice on your stuff... like my old i5 2400...

On the APU it actually matters a lot.

? What APU? We are talking about Intel right? And I really dont have much knowledge about AMD so ... :P
