CPU Or GPU for rendering

Hi,

recently this year I build a new PC and with Ryzen 9 5900X but unfortunately for the silicon crises, I couldn't get my hand on one of the new Nvidia RTX 3000 series.(was aiming for 3080 btw).

Actually I couldn't get my hand on any GPU, till i got GTX 1660.

Anyway, most of my work is video editing and rendering and i needed to ask for ex:i use adobe after effects, premiere and media encoder.

Now for the rendering part, which is better to use CPU or the GPU in my case? or I can`t even choose and  the software will do it?

You can test it by selecting the preferred render device but not every effect can be rendered on the gpu or cpu so it will decide what can do what.

 

You might want to test since you have a 1660 and it might be that the 5900x is faster. Hard to say.
