I just googled Donau welle, it looks very familiar I think I've had it when I was in Munich or Nuremberg.

My wife made this as birthday cake for me. I carry on the tradition now =) It's one of my favorites... 

 

But heck... it is pure Hip gold =) 

 

250g Butter for the batter, 250g butter for the vanilla creme, and I think about nearly 500g of sugar... as well as some eggs, cooked vanilla pudding and sour/dark cherries and some cocoa to change the color of the dough about 2/3 light colored doug, 1/3 cocoa dough on top of the light one
