So unfortunately after purchasing an old server board the BIOS does indeed need updating. First of all the board I have is a Gigabyte GA-7BESH-RH.So after downloading the latest BIOS it comes in a zip so I have extracted this. Inside there are 4 files:

1. 7BESH.F8 (Presumably the BIOS update)

2. F. BAT

3. note.txt (Just states the BIOS version)

4. PHLASH16.EXE

So can anybody help me with updating the BIOS. I should also mention I couldn't find any instructions on the Gigabyte website.

just use the drive as it is. usually there can be other files on the drive, but the file has to be in the root directory of the flash drive... Usually in the bios there is a function usually within the last options of the bios, called something like EZ flash, bios flash, bios update, whatever, if the board supports biosupdates via usb. just launch the unility and selecte the usb flash drive your file is on and it should find the file and start updating...

hope this helps

I worked out how to do it however the seller didn't send me the correct revision of the motherboard so it will be going back.
