Hi, I am new. What difference does it make if I set pbo limit to either "disabled" or "motherboard"?

Also, what does "max cpu boost clock override "do exactly?

Doesn't the curve already overclocks the gpu which makes it faster since the curve is down?

cooler is d15s with a 120mm high speed be quiet fan

Thanks for the info

This is what I get from running cpuz test

All I did in bios was to set the curve to -20, and set pbo limit to motherboard and thats it.

I am happy that it gets 4.9ghz, but the idle temp isn't any lower. i used to idle at 50-55c with d15 and I just wish the idle temp gets normal and lower, a bit oc performance is also nice touch to add.

I am  a bit concerning about the voltage, is max 1.487v normal?

Here's what I got with cinebench 20 and I reached a whopping 90c the whole time

and yes the score gets a lot higher from 7737 to 8414 all core, but the temp,  the temp!!!!! stays at 90c the whole time.

All cores are up to 4.4ghz during the test, where it only reaches 4.1ghz last time, but it was stable at 70-76c during the test, never even reached 80c.

Need help

It's a big processor. Puts a D15 to it's knees no problem. All the numbers look accurate. Summer temps? What's the room temperature?

i am using a d15 on it right now, the room temp is really high. How can I lower the temp?

Have you tried to update the BIOS to the latest non-Beta BIOS?

AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors tend to idle above "average" idle temps as there is more voltage pumped into the cores; more voltage usually means more heat.

That max voltage sounds a bit above what I'd want to see.

The mobo is tuf x570 wifi version. I get it's a big boi cpu, but it shouldn't be idling at 55c even with my high room temperature.

If the room has a window, perhaps a small window air conditioner unit would help.

I don't really get the pbo thing. I thought undervolting the cpu will result a lower temp and a lower voltage when idling and lower temp when during max load, too. However, it reaches 90c this time during the test. Before I made the change, though it idles at 50-55c, it never reaches 80c during heavy load. Mostly stays at 76c under max load.

Yeah, I understand it's a high-end CPU. It's just pretty common to see these chips from AMD to idle at higher temps, similar to those you are experiencing. Probably not worth doing since we already know your idle temps right now, but try taking the side panel off the case and see if temperatures improve (probably won't, again stating this due to the fact these chips idle at high voltages, creating excessive heat).

It's a cat and mouse game.

Frequency creates heat and v-core creates heat.

You lower the v-core, but raise the frequency and still builds additional heat.

So the scaler is trying to beat the system, but it's actually futile while the SenseMi algorithm won't boost the chip additionally without reaching set thermal parameters.

As in such, in now yet another thread, the High temp alert for AMD Ryzen processors is 70c. With a default system, this sets cpu fan to 100%. This number should be telling people something... but most are comfortable running 80c+ for whatever reason.

I understand when boosting to high frequency, the cpu will look towards the curve to find a voltage that matches the frequency, but how do I get a threshhold in pbo that stops the cpu from running too hot. Despite cpu idling at 55c sometimes even 60c, it never reaches 80c during max load without pbo enabled. One of the big reason I enable pbo is that I thought it would give lower temp during idle because I think my idle temp is too high, not normal kinda.

Back to lowering the room temp....

Hi, I am still looking for answers. if you have overclocked 5900x with pbo, please let me know and leave a message.

I have mine overclocked +100 -30 CO and mine is ok.. does not run at all like you describe.

Its about 21c in my room.. all the windows in the house are open.

I just woke up and let air con run till now. My room temp is now kinda cold. It now idles at 41-43c and 81c during heavy load. Did you set -30 for the curve and what voltage are you using. The only thing that concerns me is that my max voltage is 1.519v. Are you a bit concerning about the max voltage, I prefer to have it at the low 1.4v

Right now I am running everything @ stock clocks. CPU at stock, but in the amd overclocking section I did enable PBO advaced and set an all core curve to -30 then turned off PBO. It saves the curve 🙂

But outside of that everything in my system is @ stock right now.
