Hey if you need to connect an external gpu to a laptop(for example rtx 2080 with razer core x)then you need an

thunderbolt 3/usbc port but can I connect an  razer core x with an rtx 2080 to a laptop that doesn't have a thunderbolt 3 port using a usb 3.0 to thunderbolt 3 adapter?

by connecting the razer core x to the thunderbolt 3 adapter and that to the usb 3,0 port of the laptop?

If this does work then will there be a lower pefomace than normal?

Thunderbolt is different than USB-C. While USB-C just refers to the form factor, Thunderbolt refers to the communication standard. For USB 3.0 that is the same. USB 3.0 refers to the specification for the communication protocol while you propably refer to the USB A form factor but you can also get USB 3.0 over the USB-C form factor. Therefore you cannot get an adapter for USB 3.0 to Thunderbolt. And if your laptop does not have a Thunderbolt port there is nothing you can do to connect to a Thunderbolt e-gpu.

No, it will not work, thunderbolt is basically just have the same port as usb c 5gbps, 10gbps, and 20gbps

To simplify it thunderbolt bolt is atleast same to 2 times as fast as latest usb 20gbps but having different protocol that allows it to be also a normal usb port and protocol

while also carrying a pcie lane that necessary for the egpu dock

The easier way to say it is. Thunderbolt uses pcie lanes for it's data connection which links it directly to the cpu. Usb uses a usb controller and does not directly interface with the cpu. Gpu's need pcie lane connections and a usb controller simply does not have that.

There's, infact if you just need single usb port you don't need adapter at all

But it's not other way around
