So like everyone here I was waiting to buy a new gpu to get more fps in a few select games that I wasn't getting the performance I was wanting. Eventually I got tired of waiting and decided to upgrade my cpu from a 6700k to a 5800x to see maybe I could get a few fps to help me get though the deadly graphics card apocalypse.

While trying to find out how much fps I would gain going from 6700k to 5800x with a GTX 1080 @1080p on the games was currently playing I felt like it was impossible to get reliable numbers because most new reviews of CPUs that do include older CPUs they don't usually include older GPUs with the specific games I play.

So here are my fps gains in few games that my 6700k was struggling with

Csgo while streaming went from 130fps to locked 300(fps limit)

iRacing in VR went from 45fps to locked 90fps (NASCAR with 30 cars on track)

escape from tarkov went from average of 65 to 98

GTA V went from 65 to 90

keep in mind these are cherry picked numbers and pretty much all non cpu heavy titles I seen almost 0 improvement, but if there's anyone else out there that has a similar pc and plays those games or games that are extremely cpu demanding that need a performance boost and you can't buy a gpu buying a 5600x, 5800x or newer Intel i5 or i7 might be a good way to squeeze out all the performance from your current pc while we wait for 2022 and the shortage to be over.

This upgrade for me has made my need for a new gpu go way down and now I can conformably wait out until next year and hope that someone else who is just wanting slightly more performance in a few titles reads this and doesn't think they need to buy a $4000 gpu.

Thanks.

I have no idea how reputable this channel is, and they're testing using a 2080 ti (and 1080 ti for some reason?), not a 1080, but there's some definite gains in fps in some of these games.  They also have a video of the 5800x fighting back a bevy of i7 processors.  Take it with a grain of salt, but it sounds like they're in line with your results!  Thanks for posting.  I've been wondering about this stuff myself lately (though I'm on a 3600 and a 2060, so I'm more GPU limited for the most part...), especially since my friend upgraded his board to a 10th gen i7 and got some decent gains in games, despite keeping his GTX 970.

Channels like that make me question life, because I have no idea if they pulling numbers out of a hat, just assuming that X is 20% faster so they give a 20% faster score or if they are actually legit numbers because some of the numbers that a lot of YouTube channels similar don't all add up.
