HP envy x360 ubuntu HIGH CPU USAGE

Hi everyone!

So I got the HP envy x360 laptop, the one that Linus reviewed only the 4700U version.

32GB ram

2TB Sibernet NVME

Running Ubuntu 20.10

Recently the laptop seems to work really hard and with that heat and the fans are screaming.

I opened it up, cleaned a little, it was hardly dirty, and it didn't help.

I have a feeling its infected with a virus or something... sometimes I see some of the CPU cores going to 90% and up and I got maybe 8 Firefox tabs open and maybe Filezilla open. Thats it.

On the monitoring program I dont see the cause the max cpu % is around 12 for "web content" I did enable "all processes"

And still nothing to indicate the reason.

How can I check what could be the problem?

Thanks

Have you looked at top?  (Open a terminal and run 'top' as root.)

Yes. Firefox 50 to sometimes 90% CPU usage.

Probably an add-on, if you have any installed.  If not you could always try Chrome.
