Cue the dankpods laugh

Summary

Bose just disclosed a massive security hack. While Bose has said that the leak has been contained, it has not verified any loss of consumer data or it's own intellectual property. According to bose, only sensitive employee data was leaked. Bose has refused to pay the ransom though. There is no disruption in business

As of today, that appears to have limited the impact of the attack. As Bose worked to secure its network, IP addresses with known links to the attacker were added to blocklists on the company’s firewalls. That may have prevented mass-downloading of sensitive corporate data — the kind of data that provides today’s ransomware gangs with the leverage they need to demand multi-million-dollar payments from their victims

My thoughts

Bose refused to pay ransom. They showed "courage"

How convenient,and suspiciously so...

Just like how Apple said that the butterfly keyboard problems affect only a small number of users.

We need to work on your definition of courage 🙂 (I understand the quotes now!!!)

I was more worried that the identities of all the people who get fleeced for the WAve Radio were known now and they would be horribly mocked all over the world ....

😞

I think the double quotes means they're being sarcastic.

Isn't it awesome how companies can be so brave when it comes to their employees? Courageously refusing to secure their personal data lol

It’s nice to hear that Bose didn’t pay a ransom, though I do wonder what the reasoning behind that decision was. I think a big influence was the impact of the attack though, or lack thereof. From what I understood business wasn’t impacted too much (no shutdowns), and combined with the low amount of data the attackers were able to get, they probably thought it didn’t make financial sense to pay a ransom. That’s just speculation on my part based on very little information, but in my opinion “courage” likely had very little to do with their decision.
