Hey there LTT,

First off; I know its a terrible time to build a PC, but I'm running on a desktop I bought at Best Buy 5 years ago for $1400 and I can really feel it. I've been wanting to upgrade for a while now and after waiting for the market to settle for over a year I'm just going to pull the trigger on it. I've been watching a ton of LTT PC builds recently and have done some research but still have no idea what I'm doing. That being said, I'd like to know what I'm doing with your help! After watching LTT through quarantine I know how to put a computer together but not what hardware would best fit my needs; I'm looking to never buy a pre-built PC again and would love a direction to start building towards.

I play casual games, do some video editing as a hobby, and use a home PC for all the usual boring home PC things you can think of. I'd like to get started on something and have a previous generation graphics card that I can upgrade down the line when they become more available but I'm not sure what would be a good fit.

So far I've been looking at an AMD Ryzen 5 CPU and that's basically where my brain turned to mush looking through PCPartPicker and NewEgg. I'd like to build a good PC but I'm not even sure Ryzen is the right CPU right now or if Intel is the way to go. I usually run with 2 monitors and my main monitor will be getting upgraded as soon as I have a computer that can stand to run past 60fps, otherwise I think my peripherals are good? Any help you could send my way would be appreciate!

I haven't included a gpu. I'd suggest an RTX 3070. Good luck finding a decent gpu.

This build is a good basic system. No bling, all the $ have gone towards quality and performance.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

As you mention video editing, I would go for a better SSD like the one below.

I appreciate that! I was just doing some extra research into SSDs. Very helpful thank you.
