ok so i have a acer X243W (165hz 1080), rx 5700, 32 gb 3600 mem. my plan is to upgrade mobo and cpu and give my current b450 tomahawk and 3600 to the Mrs. so she can game better with me. what im trying to figure out is should i get 5600x or 5800x. microcenter prices 5600x $279, 5800x $399. i currently have an issue streaming high CPU intensive games on my 3600 like cyberpunk even if i drop it down to 720p stream. so it worries me that a 5600x would do the same thing but i honestly dont know. i know i should upgrade my gpu, but yeah thats a future upgrade when prices come down, maybe get lucky and the LHR 3080 will be around MSRP. so should i get the 5600x and save the 120$ or is that $120 worth the headroom with the 2 extra cores. and just so everyone knows, if i could find a 5900x around MSRP then i would get that, but they cant be found. thanks for your help!

CPU encoding consumes threads. If you're struggling with a 3600, that same problem will be there with a 5600X. The 5800X would serve you better overall, especially now that the next gen consoles are 8 core affairs. PC games will follow suit, especially those that are developed for both PC and console.

You might even consider a 5900X. That's more than you really need for gaming, though some games like Cyberpunk will scale to 24 threads already. But it would give you plenty of headroom for CPU encoding while streaming without affect game play in most cases at all. It's also probably the best value in the Zen 3 line up for price to performance.

Edit: Availability is so weird. I literally just walked into my Micro Center and got them to pull a 5900X from the cabinet. They had plenty in stock.

yeah, im not going until next week, but im hoping they get some 5900x in stock. and back to the 5600x vs 5800x i was thinking since the 5600x is 10-15% faster than a 3600, that it might be enough. but i think im gonna try for a 5900x and if they dont have one when i go, then ill get the 5800x. thanks for the info
