Xbox 1S disk issues

Suki-chan

So, I have a 1s that is absolutely refusing to run any Xbox One games, and Xbox 360 titles immediately give a 'not backwards compatible' error, regardless of the game. Where do I even start at attempting to fix this? Is it hardware or software?

First try doing a hard reset by holding down the power button on the console for 10 seconds, then disconnecting the power cable and leaving it unplugged for 30 seconds or so. If that doesn't work, you could also try doing a complete factory reset if you aren't worried about losing anything.

If neither of those steps work, it's most likely a hardware issue and you'll have to see about getting the disk drive replaced.

I mostly speak from my own past experience from similar problems. My solution may not work for you, but I'll always try my best to help as much as I can. If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my comment or mention me @WaggishOhio383, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

I already did all that 'flea power' stuff, I just wanted to know if I should start with a reflash or a new disk drive (both are equally risky).

Is your 1S outside its warranty period? And what do you mean reflash? Pls link me to something so I can look into this, bc I thought MS wouldn't ever allow that sort of repair.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Well then it would have been helpful to say what you had already done to try fixing the problem, wouldn't it?

That being said, replacing the disk drive definitely sounds more promising to me. But maybe that's just because I'm used to repairing older consoles where it's almost always a hardware problem if you can't read games.

They don't. Lemme see if I can find the guide I found.

Oh something else I thought of that you could try is checking the disk drive's connection to the motherboard. I bought a broken OG Xbox one time that was having trouble reading disks. It could read CDs perfectly fine, but if you popped in an actual game disk, it had trouble confirming that it was an authentic game, and it just wouldn't load. Took the thing apart and dusted it out, and once I reconnected the cables and put it back together it worked perfectly fine.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot when I get home!
