Hi everyone,

Just finished building my first PC yesterday. I have run into a small issue with one of my fans.. it is a Noctua NF-F12 IPPC 3000 that I have on my front radiator and plugged into a fan hub. When the PC boots this one fan will not spin. I have tried plugging it into a different header directly on the motherboard and that did not work either. I also tried putting another fan into the same header and that fan worked fine. The weirdest thing though is that if I plug the fan into the hub while the PC is powered on it starts right up and runs flawlessly... until the power is turned off.

It isn't too big of a deal as the single fan that is running on the rad seems to do a good enough job but I would like to try to figure this out before sending the fan back for a replacement.

Added a photo of the build as well.. proud of it for a first go

Thanks

That fan is the 3000rpm industrial version which has a minimum speed of 750rpm.  I'm guessing that your board and/or controller aren't communicating well with the higher rpms.  Did you try adjusting the fan curve to see if that made a difference?

I messed around with the fan curve quite a bit actually and nothing seemed to make a difference for this one fan. The second fan is the same model and hasn't had any issues at all. I am thinking it might just be a faulty fan but the fact that it will run fine if I plug it in while the PC is running is throwing me off.

If you've tried swapping the fans and only that one doesn't work properly then it's the fan for sure, just exchange it and let er rip. 🙂
