Front USB port

Go to solution Solved by smickoi,

Hey guys I got it working,

The front USB ports were working with my 1tb portable hard drive and phone just not my 8gb usb sticks.

Here's what I did:

Went into 'device manager' and into 'universal serial bus controllers' tab,

With this open I plugged in the usb,

'USB mass storage device' popped up, right click and uninstalled it,

unplugged the usb and replugged it and now it works :)

Still don't know why it had stopped working, but now its back :)

Hey guys I'm having trouble with the front USB ports on my case (antec 1100 mobo sabertooth z77), I'm trying to use my 8gb thumb drives which always have worked on the pc but when they're plugged in all that happens is windows makes the notification sound but nothing appears in my computer.

When I plug in my 1tb portable drive it shows up, it's only the USB sticks that don't. The screen also flickers when I plug it in.

The USB sticks work on other laptops and I have used them on my pc before.

Any thoughts?

Does it work on any other USB ports on the computer? Or does it just not want to work with that computer?

Try switching the internal USB cable to a different header on the motherboard.

If the 1TB portable has it's own power source, then it could be a lack of +5v power on the front port(s) (possibly because of a blown 'fuse').
In any case, check the wiring of the front panel connector - the front panel USB port may have a connector on both ends - check that the connectors are fully inserted on both ends and check that the +5v wire (usually red) is not broken or disconnected. And, of course try the other motherboard USB headers.
