This problem happens sometimes and it says 'A disk read error occured' when I turn on my computer, sometimes I can alt+ctrl+delete to fix the problem and there are times where alt+ctrl+delete doesn't work and I need to restart like 5 times for it to get into Windows. Not exactly sure what the problem is although about 1 month ago I formated both my SSD and HDD within ubuntu on a USB and then installed a fresh copy of windows 8.1.

Ever since, I've had this problem. It doesn't always happen but it does sometimes!

The great thing about hard disks is that they tend to give you warning signs before they fail outright. Use Windows to check integrity and for errors. Backup in safe mode if you can. Consider looking for another HDD asap.

My HDD is still quite fresh, haven't even had it for a year and my SSD is nearly 2 years old. (Intel 520 120GB and Seagate Barracuda 2TB)
