Sentey Case

Ricx94

What do you guys think of this case;

  • Sentey Extreme Division Wolf GS-6600

My current build is

AMD FX-6300

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

MSI 970A-G46

2x8GB G-Skill Sniper DDR3 1866

Asus nVidia Geforce GT 630 2GB

Raidmax RX-600AF 600W

2x 3.5" HDD's

2x 5.25" ODD's

i like that it has usb 3.0 passthrough, since my mb only has back ports, not 19-pin. other things i like about it are that hard drives are mounted sideways for easier (de)installation, it has 6 fans preinstalled (even if they're not the best), 2 fans are pointed right where the graphics card goes, the front I/O connections are all on top so the front bezel can come off without pulling wires, and it seems to have a lot of space for cable management.

I'm looking for your general thoughts. is sentey a good brand for cases?

do you have a better suggestion? my budget for a case is around $160 max including tax and shipping (where this case sits right now at Newegg Canada)

PSU = No

Graphics card = No

As for your case, get something like the Define R4. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352021

What's your budget for your PC? Right now, it's a mess of "no".

I'm just trying to give an idea of what i have in my case right now, and what would immediately be going into a new case.

as for graphics card i know it's not that great but it plays the games i want it to play alright. I do plan on upgrading it but i might not be for a while as I don't have a lot of money right now. a case however is definitely something i am looking for right now, since the one i have has pretty much zero options for fans/ cooling besides a single 80mm fan at the back for exhaust.

power supply has been serving me perfectly fine. i got it cheap (can't remember how much) and i have had zero problems with it

Your PC isn't intensive, but when you upgrade, PLEASE change the power supply. It's a time bomb waiting to happen.

I realize my system isn't intensive right now. I will though in all likelihood be using my next case for quite a while, and I want it to be accommodating and I would like it to look nice.

My PSU I will replace at some point but not right now. It will probably be when I can afford a simple modular one.

You hadn't given any thoughts on what you think of the case I listed. You also haven't even tried to justify anything you've said, though I understand where you're coming from for at least some of it.

Such a large case would feel empty with so little hardware in it. I'd suggest sticking with a mid tower unless you want a large tower just because. Do note that a larger case generally needs more fan power for the same amount of cooling.

Sentey isn't renowned for making great cases or anything.

Are you looking for a premium case with banging features or just one that has decent build quality and has what you need?

Sorry, got ahead of myself. The R4 has better cable management and room than the Sentey Case. I would say the only real thing the Sentey has over the R4 are it's more stock fans. R4 looks a lot sleeker, too.

If the extra $10 won't hurt, get the R4. If not, the Sentey still looks like a decent case to use.

theres a computer shop nearby where i live that sells the r4 so i got to take a look at it in person. I do like how wide it is; it will fit my heatsink perfectly fine and has lots of room for cable management. I find it kind of frustrating that I cant find the sentey case pretty much anywhere but newegg. I would like to take a look at it in person but looks like i cant really do that. Thanks for your help.

the main things i NEED in a case are that it must be more than 8" wide to fit my heatsink, and it must be able to fit a standard ATX motherboard.

that being said, i will probably be using this case for an extended period of time and for multiple builds, so i'm looking to get some of the things i want in it too, which include sideways mounted hard drives, good cooling, easy to remove front panel, good cable management (doesnt need to be great, my current case at 8" wide seems to mostly have enough room for basic cable management behind the motherboard tray, but I'm looking for a bit more; as you said i dont have a lot of components in the case.) , and usb 3.0 (since my motherboard only has rear 3.0 ports and no 19-pin connector for front ports, i would need to either get a case that has passthrough cables or budget in a PCI/PCI-e card that has the 9-pin connector)

Most of what you said was pretty much standard fare when selecting a case.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I actually did look at every one of them. the first couple were not wide enough to house my cooler master hyper 212 evo (or it might just barely fit).

the Source 530 though looks really nice and i will definitely take that into advisement. as well it is a little cheaper than the sentey wolf. the only issue is i will need something to plug the 19-pin header for usb 3.0 into. ebay has offerings of converters i will probably take a look at or a PCI-e card

another question, though, with either case, do you think i should mount the PSU with the intake fan on the top (inside the case) or the bottom (outside the case)? it will unfortunately be sitting on carpet for the time being, so which way would be best?

They all easily have enough clearance for the 212 Evo. I wouldn't recommend them otherwise. The 212 Evo is one of the most popular coolers and a quick search would show you that there have been builds done with most of the cases I recommended with the 212 Evo.

The cases should come with adapters to use usb 2.0 headers for the front usb 3.0 ports.

Taking fresh air from the outside is the best fit the psu but it isn't terrible to mount it the other way around.

probably true about the 212 evo fitting in most of them, but like i said it's probably a close fit, and there is most likely no room in back for any cable management. anyways i'm not hear to argue. you did give a really nice case choice. I'm looking around at pricing on usb 3.0 PCI-e cards (since i would like to have the speed) and I'm seeing things like this

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/USB-3-0-2-port-19-pin-Header-PCI-E-Card-15-pin-SATA-Power-Connector-Low-Profile-/360759187332?pt=US_Internal_Port_Expansion_Cards&hash=item53feec5784&_uhb=1

which is pretty much what I'm looking for to be able to use with any case that doesnt use passthrough cables for usb 3.0 front.

my only thought with the PSU fan was that with carpet underneath the PSU it might not get the air it needs to cool itself. if you think the feet on the case would give it enough clearance then I think I'd prefer to use it that way rather than pulling air from inside the case.

The 212 Evo easily fits in all of them, not just most. By most, I was referring to how you could find most of the cases with 212 Evo installed with pictures and build logs. The reason why this is not all is because the 450D is new and there are few build logs of it online yet.

I don't get what you mean by lack of cable management room. Which cases have cable management problems and where?

I'm mostly comparing it to my current case where it's exactly 8" wide, and my heatsink comes within 3mm of the side panel. in the back there is about 1/4" space behind the motherboard, which isnt very much to manage cables. I'm just looking at the width of the cases as being less than 8" (mostly i think they were 7.6") and not really seeing how it could work well.

Even so i would like a wider case anyway so there's more space to work with.

Wideness of the case is not the same as clearance or how much space you have to work with. The cases I've recommended have about an inch if not more clearance behind the motherboard tray. Your current case is badly designed but that doesn't make all cases bad.
