Suspected PSU/GPU problems - Need outside input

Hello all,

The skinny:

For the past few months I've been dealing with non-stop issues with my PC. Whether it be constant BSOD's with a particular brand of RAM, or Display issues. I'm thinking it's PSU related, but I could use some advise or outside thoughts on this. I also developed an issue with my GPU. I will be playing a graphically intensive game and after a few minutes, the PC will lock up, the displays will go black, and all audio gets distorted. After taking the GPU out, the PC worked well for one night, and now won't push any signal through to the display via MOBO Display-port.

PC Specs:

  • i9-9900k
  • NZXT Kraken X52 AIO
  • RTX 2080 Super 8GB
  • ASUS Z390-A Prime Motherboard
  • 850W Corsair PSU
  • Windows 10 64-bit Version 20H2

If any additional information is required please let me know.

In-Depth:

RAM Issues:
I have two different brands of RAM; G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB DDR4 3600MHz CL16-19-19-39 1.35V, and Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 3600MHz CL18-22-22-42 1.35V. The G.Skill RAM will no longer work, even after getting brand new replacement sticks. The Corsair RAM works just fine. I've tried them in every configuration of sticks possible, and my PC ALWAYS BSOD's when I try to boot it up with the G.Skill RAM in it. However with the Corsair RAM it's completely fine.

Display issues:

Two nights ago while playing Modern Warfare with a buddy of mine I encountered a problem over and over again. After playing a few rounds the PC would lock up, both displays would go black, and audio would get distorted. I noticed also that the GPU fans would rev up to 100%, sounding like a jet almost. To temporarily fix the issue I would have to force shutdown the PC, and restart it. I kept an eye on temps and they never got too hot, even the second before it would lock up and cut display to the monitors and rev up the fans. I submitted an RMA for the GPU and it was approved so I'm going to be sending it in soon. However I have encountered a different issue now. Last night I was able to boot up the PC using just the integrated graphics of the 9900K. On first boot it locked up so I had to reboot it, but after that it worked fine. This morning however I tried to turn on my PC again, and it now won't push any display signal through the display port. Admittedly I haven't tried HDMI. The PC looks as though it turns on. Fans and AIO run, MOBO springs to life, all RGB elements also come to life and show correct programmed colors. All USB devices turn on as well.

I am thinking it could be the PSU finally dying, and have submitted an RMA for it as well. However any ideas as to what I could try would be immensely appreciated.

Thank you for your time and hope you're all doing well.

i dont have any idea what you could do. But i had similar problems in my old Laptop some time ago (freezing in GPU demanding titles and then needing to reboot, but i was'nt encountering any RAM issues). Some time later (it was a R9 M375) the GPU died. Maybe try using another GPU and then look if you still got RAM problems? I dont know a lot that you could do tbh

I don't have another GPU to try, so I will have to wait the week or two for this current GPU to be sent out and come back to see if it fixes it. Thank you replying!
