SO lenovo claims that you cannot have a HDD caddy in the dvd drive.

I was just lifting my laptop, when i heard a screw loose inside 

so when i opened it, the dvd drive screw came off, and i realized that the Dvd drive came right off!

I had a Lenovo W510 HDD caddy, and it runs off of SATA like the Dvd drive

So i plugged it in with a 700GB HDD, and voila! im running a 700GB 2nd HDD

 

 

Also im wondering if i can use the internal mini Pci express, and attach a cable from the inside,  to the bottom of the laptop and use an external Desktop GPU

Ehh felt like i should tell people my great discovery

They said that the Ultrabay is only compatible with the y500/y400

And the ultrabay has features like second GPU as well, while the Y580 only has SATA

and you have to remove a screw to remove the bay in the y580, while the Y500 is more proper, with a slide lock and other things

This is a feature that they sell accessories for, I don't know who said it's not possible...

where does lenovo say this? they sell overprice caddies on their older models. and the internet is filled with caddies that work for almost every laptop.

Also on some posts in their forums they say it is impossible

Whoops i just realized that there are caddies online...

SORRY!!?!!

But they still require you to open the laptop and remove a screw, which believe it or not, some people dont even want to open 2 screws... So its not official on lenovo's side

wait are u asking us to applaud u for taking the leap into removing 2 screws? im confused now. also:

Ehh i dont really know what my point is, just meant that some people dont want to take out 2 screws so i meant that there is no real lenovo certified caddy for y580 thats easily removable like the (ex w510)

also the GPU thing does not work with the y580, only y500,y400,y510 etc.
