Funny, I'm having the same issue with my old rig.

Can you clarify; when your machine fails to load the OS, do you get an error message similar to "cannot read boot device" when it doesn't boot?

To try diagnosing mine I'm going to do the following:

- Check all SATA ports (yes it's that old)
- Change BIOS battery - you might want to do this too - sometimes a bad battery slips through QA - they can die young.

I've already done:

- SSD health check (using SSD manufacturers utility)
- MBR check / rebuild etc.

Hi, i get no error messages at all, just a black screen after bios. but when i turn off and on again it works fine.

maybe something to do with the ports like you said, i will try the battery also.

do you think the recent windows update might have something to do with it as well?

RE your first point - yes that sounds very strange. I would expect to see some sort of error code / message on a Fail to Boot during POST.

However, WU could be the culprit, as windows can hang without giving you an error message.

I'd definitely make sure you have a recovery drive handy, boot from USB / DVD and run the troubleshooter. See if it finds anything to fix.
