CPU cooler not fitting

I have a ruzen 5 3400g and  the cooler will not screw on. the bracket is in place and it is the cooler that came with it. I can get one screw in, then the others will not reach it. My motherboard is asus b450f gaming

That’s..odd. Something must be going on. From the sound of things This is the sort of thing can happen when one is upgrading an OEM prebuilt and the motherboard has a non standard hole set.  That asus is not such a board though.  Maybe a photo might help? I don’t know.
