Laptop Docks

Hey first time posting here, hope I've got the right sub-forum.

I'm looking at docks and I think I want a USB-C dock rather than a Thunderbolt one, primarily cos of cost, ease of finding monitors with it built in and compatibility.

What I'm stuck on is that I have a Thunderbolt 3 laptop and TB3 states it supports DisplayPort Alt-mode. The new laptop will be AMD based so no TB3 but will have USB-C with DP Alt-mode.

The dot I'm struggling to join is if I had a USB-C dock that used Alt-mode would it work with both devices, or is the alt-mode signal packaged up in TB and not separately understandable to a USC alt-mode device?

Would I need a titan ridge based dock to play nice with both (and does titan ridge even support all the USB c alt-modes and PD when it works in non-TB mode?).

Hope that makes sense!
