Hello to whom is reading, I am very interested in a 10 gigabit network and I was wondering what it would take to set one up, I don't know If I would setup a 10 gigabit network just yet, maybe when cash is flowing, ( maybe never on those grounds lol ) I want to know what I would need, How much it would cost ( If pricing is available ) I am just curious, I don't know if this will ever happen, I just thought it to be interesting, I do have another question, is it possible to aggregate them to make a 20 or 30 or even 40Gb network ?

Thanks

Nathan

This is the answer SFP. It would cost a lot you would need SFP module's £100x1 cables which are like £30x1 and a switch with SFP, also network cards  £200x1. about the aggregate you can make them 100Gb but it cost more money and its only as fast as your slowest link, I think

"There's no test like production!"

Thanks for the input guys, I guess that is a spot to start, I Just need the money to do, from the setup's on both ends the networking it self would be cheaper, As in that video of Linus' network setup you need a server to actually handle that.... My server won't lol, It is pretty ghetto in specs, ohwell,

It would be so damn awesome to have a 10Gbit connection in the house. I would have absolutely no reason to do it other than just sit there and drool over the speeds! Anyway doesnt seem toooo expensive, considering this is the kinda stuff used in corporate environments. And then daisy chaining make it all a lot cheaper. I was lucky enough to do some work experience with the IT guys at a university (RMIT Melbourne) and they gave me like 8 Cat 6A cables. They are so thick, but so awesome! I will be holding onto those for the rest of my life in the off chance that i can do 10Gbit one day! (Even though in 10 years we might have 100Gbit standard!)

That's lucky, I don't think I will be given anything as to my setup, maybe a couple hundred dollars from my dad so I can throw his pc into the setup, but yeah, this was just me day dreaming, I need a damn job lol.

You'd need a lsi raid card running on raid 6 or 0 to take benefit of 10 gigabit network storage.

not really any ssd gets bottlenecked by gigabt ethernet. i could push stuff from pc to pc at 500mb/s but my switch/mobo won't let me :D

and with Sata4 ssd's will be even faster

So, let's just say I had a shit ton of money and I bought 24 SSD's then used some sort of raid configuration I could then take advantage of this 10GB network ? lol, gotta love your imagination.
