Hey, i'd like some advice on a build please. In the past i have been building my own PC's so i have a bit of knowledge about putting them together. But i have been working in local service desks for way to long and since offices mainly buy pre built laptops and such... i have lost the magic touch in knowing what fit's together and what not when building a desktop computer. So please excuse my foolishness below... i have stopped gaming looooong time ago, in fact i have had no desktop pc either...

Budget (including currency): Euro - i want to have it below 1500 euro but if i can go below 1000 (just to keep my partner amused )

Country: Belgium

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I'm trying to build my own home server at smart costs. Mainly it will be transcoding and saving rtsp/rtmp streams to an already existing NAS with zoneminder. it will also use doods to do object detection. It will run docker containers for Homeassistant and probably will end up with other stuffs i want to automate in my house. In the build i already linked below i did an effort on building one myself. I also want to be able to thinker around an test things...

Other details:

Linus OS (Ubuntu)

This is not going to be an extreme build or whatever....

I do not need:
- LED's
- a monitor (SSH all the way)
- Keyboard / mouse
- Headset etc
- In fact.... i do not care about a GPU either (so i might be in luck because these things cost a fortune these days!)

This thing is going to sit in an attic or storage room in our new house..... I already invested in a unifi network that i want to expand a bit... so any savings on the server would go into like a 16 port Poe switch or something. i do like to have some core(age) and memory capacity going on. sound levels are also an issue.

I could go with a threadripper..... but frankly... it's going to be sitting more idle then anything else I'm now running my servers on old laptops but i'm running out of processing power.
