Keyboard input lag/inconsistency while gaming

Starting about a month or so ago, I started having an issue where response in game to my keypresses was drastically less accurate and precise than it was before. I have updated my drivers, from keyboard to motherboard, and nothing seems to help. I have been able to find no results for it online, and at this point I'm just hoping to avoid dishing out money for a completely new keyboard and praying that fixes it. Any and all thoughts would be appreciated. Please let me know if you have any questions as far as hardware, software, and so on.

have you every cleaned the keyboard ? Is it a mechanical keyboard ?

I haven't thought of that as an issue, and I'll absolutely do that soon, but I feel that it can't be the issue as I only have these problems while I'm gaming. Nothing out of the ordinary happens when I'm typing an essay for example. Also yes, it is a mechanical keyboard, a Corsair K68
