does anyone know if i can use 3000mhz ram with an alienware aurora r6, its a i7-7700k processor and a propietary z270 motherboard. aslong as i get the right voltage which is 1.2 will i be able to run the 3000mhz sticks,

secondly is there even a noticable difference between 2666mhz and 3000mhz

id be interested in any ram reccommendations that you have, planning on keeping my computer for another 2-3 years. and will probably buy another prebuilt when the time comes to upgrade so im also not to crazy about 1, spending too much, and 2, wont be using it for too long of a period in the first place.

“Can you”? Sure.  Will it run at 3000mhz is the question.  That one I don’t know the answer to.  If the board was z series the answer would almost certainly be yes. If you can overclock that k chip then you’ve got a z series chipset. If it’s an h series very probably not.  If it’s a b series less doubtful but I don’t know for sure. Dell has a really nasty habit of building their own proprietary motherboards for desktops though.  Finding out what Dell named your motherboard (they have a habit of printing the name on the board somewhere or you could look it up by model) and then looking that up might tell you.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
