So it's come to the point where I really need a new laptop. I've come for advice because there's just so much out there with so many options I don't know what to do.  I'm also afraid of things like chromebooks and thinkpads or whatever those netbooks are that have good specs but won't allow java or flash. I'm currently running a Asus K53e that I saved from a dumpster and revived. (Would boot but windows wouldn't start, deleted a corrupted file in safemode with instructions from google.)

What I am using it for is school work and oldschool runescape.  No I'm not trolling I really play oldschool runescape. For those not familiar I checked the website and this is their recommended Specs

  • CPU: Intel i3+/AMD @ 2.4+ GHz
  • GPU: GeForce 400x, Intel HD 4x, AMD Radeon 7xxx +
  • RAM: 4GB
  • At least 8GB of storage space available for the NXT cache

So with this in mind I'll say a few things first off my budget is in the realm of $1000.  While I intend to only do homework and play osrs some other features or the capability to do more things would be nice.  Disc drive included would be nice.  I like this screen size which is 15.6" I believe.  One last thing because I'm getting into some intense online gameplay which requires low pings I'm looking into a new isp and having an option to be hardwired to my new router via ethernet cable would be cool.  Or tell me if I'm silly to think a wired internet connection with be that much faster and more responsive than just wifi.

Thanks,

Jared

its just under 1000 dollars. I expect it to be like 4x better than the laptop you chose

otherwise I recommend you to get a cheap msi gaming laptop or an acer gaming one.

edit: get this gaming laptop. its under 1000 dollars https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-legion-5-15-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-ti-512gb-ssd-phantom-black/6398969.p?skuId=6398969 It should last you a VERY long time.

I've considered this option, what I'm concerned about going the build route aside from building it is my peripheral situation.  How much am I going to have to spend to get acceptable keyboard, mouse, monitor and whatever else I need?

For around 1000$, Id recommend for an older late 2019 or early 2020 notebook.

Secifically the Lenovo Thinkpad T590 or the T580. It comes with a greate Quad Core Processor, enough space (usally 512gb ssd, can be upgraded) 8gb ram (upgradable),

a very nice full HD ips screen, some variants are even 4k (but more expensive)

and since its a Thinkpad, you can be sure about the built quality and support from a "huge" "giant" "very helpful" community of thinkpad users

ps. btw I do not use thinkpads myself, strict macbook user

I included a link on the bottom which includes a very good laptop. It includes a screen, a mouse, a keyboard, and speakers all under 1000 dollars.
