My new motherboard has a Thunderbolt header. That's great! Why can't I find anything that doesn't use a PCIe card and just uses the damned header? Is there even any real tangible benefit to Thunderbolt over HDMI 2.1? I know for data transfer it's vastly superior, but I have onboard 2.5GB LAN... I'll have HDMI 2.1 soon enough. Why would I want to run Thunderbolt at all when it seems like all those bases are covered elsewhere? Ridiculously fast external hard drives? Poorly performing external graphics cards? I really don't understand the point and am trying to figure out if I'm wrong for that.

Happy to help.
