I have an Logitech Z5500 and is having problems these days so I've decided to look into Mini Amplifiers but confused about getting Speakers and a Sub.

My top choices are the Topping MX3 and SMSL Q5 Pro but I've never had to buy a modular system, always stuck with an all in one. Do I need to match the Watts etc?

Found info for Topping MX3 but have no idea what it means ...

Quote

Output Power: 38W x 2 at 8 ohms, THD+N <10%, 40W x 2 at 4 ohms, THD+N <10%

For some reason finding It hard to find lower powered Speakers, also maybe fit a Sub in. Without trying them out to know if I should spend more or not, found 2 that could maybe work ... NUMAN Octavox 702 MKII or KEF Q350?

Or would it be worthwhile spending more but an all in one? ... KEF LSX however I don't like the high price. Reason being that the Z5500 is not modular so as the control unit is faulty but the Speakers & Sub are fine I can't just change the control unit. Another point to note is I never use it to its full potential.

I would go with powered speakers, specs of the amps you are looking at is not impressive at all, both the power rating and the build in dacs

I use a older version of the Klipsch R-51PM. Verry happy with them, and they have sub out, and there is many options to choose from

Thanks it did cross my mind that powered speakers would already have everything set up. I've come across the Klipsch mentioned quite a lot, what version do you have? Also did u get a sub or not need one?

The main aim at the moment is optical but at some point I may need an HDMI extractor.
