Powering up problem!

Go to solution Solved by Sinando123,

all sorted now!

had a design issue with the case. GPU was not slotting in properly so had to lift the MOFO up slightly.

so SOLUTION was make sure GPU is in properly. it may be root cause

Hi all,

Just recently started building my own pc using the following components.

  • Motherboard - ASUS TUF GAMING B550M - PLUS
  • CPU - AMD RYZEN 5 3600
  • GPU - Palit GTX 1060 JetStream
  • RAM - 8gb x 2 Crucial Ballistix RGB DDR4 3200
  • Power Supply - Corsair CX650F
  • Storage - Verbatim 1TB

So I've put everything together after watching various (Linus) videos and reading the manuals.

when I power up, i'm getting this continuous beep sound. i press the main power on button on the front panel but still nothing but the noise beep beep beep beep.

Any Tips anyone???

Not sure, but maybe this will help:

1 Beep - Refresh Failure
Reseat/replace memory, troubleshoot motherboard.

2 Beeps - Parity Error
Reseat/replace memory, troubleshoot motherboard.

3 Beeps - Memory Error (first 64KB)
Reseat/replace memory.

4 Beeps - Timer Failure
Troubleshoot motherboard.

5 Beeps - Processor Failure
Troubleshoot CPU, motherboard.

6 Beeps - Keyboard Controller Failure
Troubleshoot keyboard, motherboard.

7 Beeps - Virtual Mode Exception Error
Troubleshoot CPU, motherboard.

8 Beeps - Display Memory Failure
Trouleshoot graphics card, motherboard.

9 Beeps - ROM BIOS Checksum Failure
Replace ROM BIOS, troubleshoot motherboard.

10 Beeps - CMOS Shutdown Register Failure
Troubleshoot motherboard.

11 Beeps - L2 Cache Failure
Troubleshoot L2 cache, motherboard.

Continuous Beeps - Memory or Video Failure
Troubleshoot memory, graphics card, motherboard.

im sure its the continuous beeps, which i've already trobuleshooted. tried with GPU in and out. and different variants of the RAM in and out.

still no luck

LED lights are blank. not lighting up when powered up.

Does the fans turn? Does the computer is rebooting continuously? Did you try with only one stick of RAM? Maybe try without any RAM and check if the LED lights up? Check every cable coming from your power supply if everything is correctly connected to the motherboard. Also check the baterry, maybe remove it and reinsert it.

no the fan doesn't turn at all, nothing turns on. just the beeping sound.

tired with no ram, same result beeping

tired with inserting battery in and out, same resulting beeping.

checked the cables and tired in different slots. the same.

tried with the GPU out also.

everything is brand new. so not sure what the problem is.

Can you send a video when powering the pc, maybe i'll see something or ear something that you didn't?

It's possible that you got a defective component.

keep getting the DRAM light blinking when i boot with 2 RAMs. if i do just the one. i get yellow dram light for 4secs then the red cpu light.

this is on the LED light panel btw.

read up ASUS forum it might be the CPU which i've checked seems to be fine.

Does it do the same thing when you have no RAM (dram yellow then cpu red)? Maybe the slot for the RAM is defective, try all four.

  • no RAM - just yellow DRAM blinks every 5secs
  • 1 RAM - tried 1 stick of RAM in every slot which gets me the yellow DRAM for 5secs followed by the red CPU light ( tried with 2 separate RAM sticks)
  • 2 RAM - just get the DRAM yellow light blinks every 5secs
  • took out battery to reset the CMOS waited for 20secs or so.

not sure if i should go through process of taking out my CPU and putting back together again and checking if theres any damage

Be sure that all the contact point on the RAM are clean and the slots are also clean. Next step is to check the cpu pin and the cpu socket if everything is clean and align.

Nice! but weird that you didn't have the gpu led from the start.
