Motherboard: Asrock Z97 Pro4

CPU: i5-4670k overclocked to 3.6 GHz

GPU: RX 480

RAM:16GB DDR3

I have noticed over the past year or two a decline of my computers capability. The bottleneck I now have is my CPU. I used to be able to play pretty much any game at ultra graphics but now when I play games my CPU is constantly at 100% and I have stuttering issues in games like Battlefield 1. I can't run VR at all with any other tabs open. I ran a test with userbenchmark.com and it confirmed that every part of my PC was performing way below how it should. I built my computer in the summer of 2014 and have since then added more ram and an RX480 to it. My computer has served me faithfully through all of middle school, highschool, and now its almost done my first year of college. I have easily put over 20,000 hours on the machine. My guess for the source of the problem is the age of the motherboard. I just thought I would like to run this idea past you guys before I spend 600 leaf bucks on Ryzen and DDR4 RAM.

Thanks for reading my post!

Age of motherboard is the source of your slow down?  How so?

When was the last time you installed Windows?  A fresh wipe?

OC that CPU a good bit more, eek out a little more performance out of it.

But honestly, the issue is that your machine hasn't gotten any fast or slower in the last 7 years.  Games are more demanding than they were.   It was good then, it's not as good now.  Not much you can do.

No idea why It would slow it down, just my best guess for now.

I wiped my drives and reinstalled windows less than 6 months ago.

OCing anymore crashes my computer.

I have noticed issues on games I remember being able to play fine previously but I could just be remembering wrong.

OCing more crashes your computer? what cooler are you using? It might be time for a repaste of thermal paste.
Download Cinebench R20 and run a 10 minute multi core test. While running the tests monitor the temperature of the CPU and after the test post the score here or check online for what is the normal Cinebench R20 score for a 4670k.

I'm using the cooler that came with the CPU, I think so at least. Its nothing fancy that's for sure. I'm long overdue a repaste, but I don't have any thermal Issues. I got 1099 points on the test. Hottest the CPU got was 55C. Online scores for the 4670k show 1450 points. Maybe when I tried to overclock I screwed up somehow and that's why I was crashing. Who knows, I'm not exactly an expert at overclocking.

Even if I do get my CPU performing better with an overclock, I don't think it would solve the issue of my GPU performing at the 2nd percentile according to the user benchmark test.

It does seem to be your computer and not just the userbenchmark.
Try flashing the latest bios for your motherboard, maybe there is an issue there.
