Internet speed when speedtesting has a declining pattern

Go to solution Solved by Skiiwee29,

Power surges/outages can absolutely damage networking equipment, even when hooked up to surge protectors. I would try swapping cables and plugging yourself directly into the modem and not through your wall jack.

Greetings all and thanks in advance for reading this post

I have been having a weird situation in my case

It all started when the power went out(i am not sure if something was changed before and after the modem reconnected after the power cut got the new "settings" - or something has been damaged after the power cut)

Im currently synced at 37800 which before the power cut gave around a 34mbit speed test

Now when doing speedtests(only with wired but this attitude is shown on the wifi as well) with no other devices connected just my computer - the test begins at the speed it should be but after 3 seconds it starts declining dropping below 29mbits

Im guessing if the duration of the test didnt end it probably go even lower

I contacted the ISP and they said that no fault is found nor a limit has been set to the line

I have changed modems. I even got a modem that syncs even higher around 42mbit but the test is the same it drops below 29mbit.

I have come to the conclusion that something was damaged from the power cut

Can a cat6 outdoor cable that connects the indoor wall socket with the outside box be damaged from the power cut or even the wall socket?

If someone has a experieced something similar and found a solution please give your input! :)

Thank you all

Hey and thanks for the fast response

Im currently connected with a cat6a ethernet cable directly to the modem/router provided by the isp

I guess this cable is ok since when doing the test through wifi from my phone the pattern is the same. It starts at the speed it should be and drops after some seconds

Im guessing its the outdoor cat6 cable or the wall socket.

But if there was a problem to these 2 shouldnt the sync speed be lower as well?

so is your tests ran via wifi or 1 hardwired and 1 wifi?

I made all kind of tests to confirm this

Many servers tested wired and wifi

I'm focusing on this pattern that keeps decreasing. The thing is that at the start of the test the speed keeps rising and reaches around 34.2mbits but after 4-5 seconds in the test it starts decreasing in stable manner. My first thought was that a limit has been set to hover around that speed (25-30mbit) but ISP said no limit has been set

This attitude exists even when i sync lower at 35000 or higher at 42000

It keeps declining whatever the modem used . Hardwired or not

Btw let me inform you that i know in other countries probably to yours as well the internet wire setup differs from my country

I believe you have a test socket as well that is behind the wall socket

This case doesn't apply to me

It just the outdoor wire that comes through the wall and connects behind the wall socket. I believe the type of the socket is called slave or secondary socket

And its the first socket that the wire comes into the house. No other sockets are used nor are connected to this first socket-  with no phone or filters attached anywhere since im on a naked dsl
