Hi there, I have a problem. My pc would not turn of or restart or go to sleep, so I decided to force shut off it. The next day it would not boot up. So I went to my friends to transfer all data from my ssd to his hdd(so I could reinstall win10) and from his hdd to my hdd(so after reinstalling it, I can have all my files). And then when we transfered everything to his hdd and pluged my hdd into his pc, and his pc would not boot up, it was stuck at windows loading screen, just like mine. Then we unpluged my hdd and everything was normal. I went home and reinstalled win10 on my ssd, it booted up and everything, but when I plugged back my hdd it did not boot up.

Any suggestions to what to do?

Oh okay, so i'm guessing it started to happen randomly. Have you tried a different SATA cable for the HDD?

Yes it does, and I can feel the vibrations when I put my finger on it.

I believe this once happened to me, and i remember fixing it by simply just removing the CMOS battery on the motherboard for about 10-15 seconds and then putting it back. It would then turn on normally, but the time and date was messed up (which was normal).

Have you tried doing that?

I did not I'll give it a try.

Could this also mean that the hdd is bad?

No, this is normal and sometimes happens randomly and especially when you have to force shutdown the computer. (it doesn't happen every time you force shutdown the computer though, i guess you just had bad luck that time)

Yes, make sure you give that a try. I believe that should resolve your issue.

No problem, reply to this if you need anything.

I did that, and it got stuck at scanning and repairing drive C: 100% complete. So I shut it off and booted it back up and nothing changed, still can't boot. Now i disconnected the hdd, and it booted fine.

Mmhm, could be bad sectors on the HDD because it was unable to complete the repair. You're most likely going to have to get a new HDD at this point, unfortunately.

Ok, thanks

He is correct I've had this happen several times, if the sector that is bad on the hdd is in the right place there isn't really any fixing it, it will do odd things most often not boot and as you have seen it gets stuck in repair, definitely get new HDD most are pretty cheap these days. Only wrote this to help you feel more comfortable with buying one, I've run into this issue from windows 95 to 10 lol
