Hey guys 🙂

I am in need for a USB-C dock for my MacBook. I would like it to have at least 4 USB 3 type A ports and an SD-card reader (micro SD is a nice to have) , the key thing is I need power passthrough.

I only find resellers on Amazon and wanted to know if someone could recommend something solid.

I am buying from Germany so please recommend something I can buy 😛

Amazon link I would like something like this with power passthrough for my MacBook 🙂

Thanks in advance and have a nice day!

I don’t live in Germany so as far as availability goes I can give you nothing.  It’s a pretty specific question.  I can talk a bit about the things in general though which may be of some help.  Hopefully someone that knows more will appear.  This one could take a while to get answered because you need someone who lives in Germany, has a MacBook like yours (whatever that is), and has recently looked at USB docks.

I do know that there are less expensive ones that have a base of usb3.0 rather than thunderbolt which wouldn’t be as fast on some macs. Not knowing if your machine has thunderbolt or not is something of an issue.  A lot of thunderbolt docks will also have an hdmi or DP connection as well.  Some of the ones that have only isbC3.0 will as well though.  The general move with such docs is to route literally everything through the doc so there’s only one cable to attach or remove.  This I think can include power as well depending on the mac.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

While I have TB3 on the port I don't need it for the dock, I only want to connect some USB3 peripherals and a USB3 HDMI capture adapter.

So literally just tb3->several USB3 and only that. At least the issue is better defined now.

Yes, but I think USB 3.1 would be enough speed for that wouldn't it?

Anyways if there is one that does that and it has power pass through I would be happy with that 🙂

Would depend on what else you had attached besides the capture device.  If it was just things like keyboards and mice that require almost no bandwidth then it’s possible.  You might be able to look at products that aren’t Mac specific then.

Maybe capturing my phone screen, but I would not do that while using the HDMI capture. The other device could be a usb stick or a keyboard.

That is why I think usb 3.1 would be enough

Edit : Just found out that the HDMI capture is USB 2.0. So a 3.1 adapter would be all I need.

The adapter I posted does everything I want, but it lacks the power passthrough so if anyone knows one please do share 🙂

Edit2 : I found this but I would rather have another USB port instead of ethernet, if no one has a recommendation though I think I will choose it
