Why do people keep complaining about reposts, sometimes it is unavoidable, like when two or more people start typing the same thing at roughly the same time and are not going to constantly refresh the page before posting to make sure that someone else didn't barely make the same post.

because people have nothing but time on their hands, and like to point out other members failures.

and some like to troll.

:P

Having five different threads on the same topic is dumb and so the Mods should remove all but one or maybe two, a simple report to notify mods works instead of posting "repost" everytime.

your right to many is bad, i'm just sick of seeing "Repost" being commented all the time. Imabigmac didmake a point just reeport to mods, not keep commenting "Repost", I'm not refering to you though.

Searching in the right sections isn't hard and refreshing the section you're posting in usually prevents "I POSTED A MINUTE BEFORE OMG RETOAST", so we can all live happily together like one big family high on love not drugs cus don't do gruds snort coke fff

To let the OP know that he's reposting something and should search before posting.

Sometimes that doesn't work like when the first two or so times it is posted is done within a couple seconds of each other.

Saying repost is cool if you link the original because then if it gets locked your post will still point people to the original, but if you don't it's pointless.

What's far more insane is how many posts in General Discussion are moved each day, like literally right now like 50% of the page is moved.

yes point to the original, but if many people just say repost with no link i hate that, those who are about to say repost should look through the comments on that post and see if someone already said and gave link, also if it is within several seconds than It shouldn't be considered a repost. just a parallel post.

Yeah, a stack of people saying 'Repost' or 'This was posted earlier' with no link is useless and TBH it annoys me. I often link originals in duplicate threads, I don't think there's anything wrong with doing that especially if the original has been there for a while.

I don't do it to point out an error I do it to stop the discussion from being fragmented, as this has happened to a couple of my own threads and it's frustrating because a user will post in the other one then their input is missing fom the thread.

I also support merging over locking/deletion in most cases.

once the user starts posting on the other persons thread they should just request that it be locked, or deleated in my opinion.

The key here is that often they don't know it's a duplicate unless they've seen the other thread.

Unless you're going in there specifically to call repost, then you're falling victim to the situation, personally I would just select all the posts that aren't quotes and merge the threads.

There is also the issue of Tech News, and people who post it without writing anything themselves, just posting a direct copy/paste of the news.

What occured in a thread I posted earlier about the latest Steam OS update was that me and another user clearly saw this notification in our Steam client and chose to make a thread about it.

I wrote a few lines of my thoughts on it, those being my now willingness to try it as this update has included unattended installation which is a big thing IMO.

The other user just copy pasted the notes, and of course because they didn't need to write anything to do this beat me by 2 mins and I had reposted the news.

That kind of thing is IMO more annoying, but on this occasion was ignored and both threads are still there.

if merging threads is possible than that should be done.

It's not really meant to attack OP or point him out on his failure. Were just letting him know someone got to the content faster than him.

That's it.

I understand that, but the thing that pisses me off the most is when there are many people who keep saying repost and nothing else.
