Hi,

Just looking for some second eyes on a port forwarding issue i'm having.

Trying to run a test server for stormworks which requires either ports 25464 or port 25464 open.

  • So opened both of those ports on my router TCP and UDP (TP Link VR900 running latest firmware 0.5.0.0.9.1 v0069.0 Build 200708 Beta 64424n as recommended by TP Link)
  • opened ports in the firewall on the host PC TCP and UDP in and out
  • Config is set up correctly, as copied from a server hosted by a provider from a mate and confirmed working there
  • server is running correctly, and showing real time updates

Here's where it gets annoying.

  • Checked if the port was being blocked by ISP (netstat -ao | findstr 25464) and nothing returned.
  • Checked firewall rules on host pc (netsh firewall show state) and returns value showing the ports are open
  • External Ip Range starts with 96.xxx.xxx.xxx so likely not behind a secondary router (definitely not locally for sure)
  • I've used port checking services such as https://www.canyouseeme.org/ with the server running and no connection could be made (connection refused with firewall off)
  • With Firewall off, server is not available.

Anything else i've missed with this?

Cheers

Have you successfully port forwarded on this ISP connection before? How are you connected? DSL? Fiber? Coax? LTE?

yes in the past, for games such as arma and assetto corsa. connection is DSL.

only thing that might be it is to roll back the firmware (updated this evening to see if that could solve it, but nada) but the assetto corsa server was working last month

Did you set a Static IP on this machine?

Did you verify it's the same IP you're entering into your router?

Did you verify the IP on this server isn't conflicting with another device on the network?

Static IP has been set from the router for the device, and flushed dns and likes, confirmed the ip on the device with ipconfig.
Only one other device in the same IP range and that is static also on an different IP

Are you able to connect to this server locally?

no way to do this locally unfortunately with the game, no Lan options 😕  only points externally

Can you use NAT Loopback?

NAT loopback is on by default and not available to be turned off

If NAT Loopback works have you tried connecting using your Public IP? Could be there isn't a problem at all just the the port is being reported wrong.

I've tried to connect to the server whilst it was live from the host pc (not sure if that will make a difference with this game, hasn't been an issue with arma and AC)

Then it sounds like a server issue. Are you using VMs? Are these hosted on separate hardware? What OS?

Hosted locally on win10 (insider build Beta) but i do have vm's (windows hypervisor) on the system (linux and a further win10 build) . reckon that could be affecting it?

What I'm wondering is the possibility that a configuration you set for something else is interfering with what this server needs.

Would the server have any issues with the overhead associated with Hyper-V? If you can't try setting it up from a clean install of Windows I'd virtualize it and go from there. If there's a server version available for Linux that might also be worth exploring.

Will give that a go tomorrow on an clean instance of win 10 in hyperV. Tried Linux for this, but a complete fad, as there is true Linux support, and have to do it via wine. Cheers for the help, I'll reply back on here with progres :)
