m.2 ssd

so for my motherboard (B450 aorus pro wifi) i have a 500 gb nvme ssd and there is two slots, the first slot (closest to the gpu), i couldn't get a standoff for the ssd but the second slot has a standoff, but you cant remove it so if i put my ssd at the bottom, will it affect performance in anyway?

For your SSD, no.  If it was SATA M.2, then you'd have an issue.

 

Remember, you can always look up your motherboard and read about it...

thats the exact thing i bought already but the standoff doesnt fit into the hole

M.2 SSDs come in two flavors.  NVMe and SATA.  M.2 is a form factor, SATA / NVMe is an interface protocol.  Your top M.2 slot will handle SATA and NVMe drives. The 2nd one will only handle NVMe ones.

 

Actually, the 2nd M.2 slot only works to PCIe 2x.  So what SSD do you have exactly?

Call Gigabyte and have them send you one.  Odd that it doesn't fit tho (and even odder you bought the same set I linked)

It's a x4 drive, so it will run at half speed.  You won';t notice, but it needs to go in the upper slot.

Aren't the standoffs just screwed into the motherboard?

 

Again, if so... you can buy them and put them in, or you can move them.

 

I'm fairly sure M.2 stand offs are just screws as evidenced by the Amazon link, to buy them as screws.

Contact Gigabyte then, it's their board. They'll be able to advise you.

 

Otherwise, use the drive in the 2nd slot until then.

If you are using your system for gaming, I doubt you will notice any difference when using the bottom one instead of the top m.2 slot.
