RX 570 running super hot, then cools off extremely fast

Hi all,

My friend has an RX 570 4GB, the MSI Gaming X version. When he is idling or playing a non intensive game, he idles around 54 degrees. However, once he clicks on any bigger game, the most common being Black Ops Cold War, his GPU temperature jumps up very quickly to about 90 degrees, but, when he closes the game it goes right back down to 55ish in seconds.

I'm planning on replacing his thermal paste for him and cleaning his cooler. Any other ideas on why this would be happening so quickly and rapidly?

Try to set from the amd software at which temperature the fans start. On youtube you can find a lot of setup.
