Windows 10 2nd GPU Error Code 12

Go to solution Solved by DeanLo,

I found solution, try Beta driver from Asrock drivers page with memory control feature. Solved problem for me,

So iv installed a 2nd GPU on my B460 Asrock Phantom Gaming 4 and it really bugs out my system, sometimes it won’t boot or will boot loop. If it does boot I’ll go into device manager and see my 2nd GPU has Error Code 12 due to a lack of resources I believe.

I have been looking online and it says I need to change a setting called “top of lower usable dram” but iv looked everywhere in the bios and can’t see this setting, it should be with the chipset stuff is.

Not really sure what else to do from now. Any ideas to help me fix this error?

What CPU do you have, what is your first GPU, what is your second GPU, and what PSU do you have? Full name and model number please, not just "600W 80+ Bronze".

CPU is a celeron G5900, first GPU is a RTX 3080 and the 2nd is a RTX3070 and the PSU is a RM1000 Gold and I know the PSU can run both as I have run them using the same PSU on a different system for a few weeks. Seems like some motherboard issue to me

Are your PCIe lanes set to split to 2x8 with a second GPU or just always 1x16?
The Celeron has enough lanes to run 2 GPUs at x8/x8, but the board may not be automatically splitting the lanes to x8/x8.

That does sound like it could be the solution but how do you change that? What setting should I be looking out for because when looking in the bios nothing really looks like it could mean that unless it’s abbreviated to something?

Hold on, I'll boot up my BIOS and see what it's listed under.

I have an ASUS board, but the settings should be named similarly enough.

  • 1 month later...
  • 1 year later...

Could anyone please say something more. I downloaded beta bios update but did not resolve the problem.

  • I've changed virtual memory to 25,000MB .
  • From various online searches for possible solutions, I've enabled "Above 4G Decoding" in the UEFI - this hasn't helped.
  • I've also tried adding a HackFlags registry key and this also hasn't helped.
