I'm trying to install windows 10 on an empty 16GB USB drive so I could boot up a new pc but whenever I try to download it, it tells me that I need to free up 8GB on the C: drive which is weird cause I'm specifically choosing the "create installation media (USB drive) for another PC" option. What should I do?

I'd just format the drive and then try it again.

Yeah (format as FAT32)

Windows 10 will not install to FAT32 last I checked, but it will install to NTFS.

OP, are you wanting to have a bootable USB (to install Windows from) or a Windows install (to boot Windows from)?

PLEASE STOP [Killing] ME I WILL GIVE Y OU ANOTHER DEAL.

@agentpenguinSince everyone doesn't know WTF they're talking about, the windows 10 media creation tool downloads the install media to a temporary directory on the C drive before loading up a USB.

If you wanna bypass this go to ON YOUR PHONE OR TABLET or non windows PChttps://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10ISO copy the download link for the ISO then download that on to your PC.

Once done use portable https://rufus.ie/ to setup your USB stick.

Ok thank you but how would I copy the download link from my phone then download it on my phone?

Copy the download link from your phone to your PC using email or a discord message, whatever.

I just tried downloading the link and it's telling me that it's 5.8GB, is that normal?

Ok thank you but unfortunately the download failed lol. I don't have enough space on my disk. Do you think I could do this on a public computer like in a library?

unlikely.

Or could I possibly download this 5.8GB file on to the USB drive instead of the main 😄 drive?

no, free up space.
