So i recently upgraded my pc after managing to get my hands on some hardware, however now i have an issue that is making me unable to play games.

Let me preface with my specs:

AMD Ryzen 5900x

ASUS X570 Crosshair Dark Hero

GSkill TridenttZ Neo 32GB DDR4 3600 CL16

EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra

WD Black SN750 1TB (OS Drive)

Samsung 970 Evo+ 2TB (Game Drive)

ASUS Thor 1200 Watt

After doing a fresh install of windows, installing drivers and getting everything set up again i found that i had an issue where steam or something related to it would crash and the game would freeze up. Audio would still be playing however i would be unable to force close the application or open any new ones basically forcing me to hard reboot. At this point i have tried everything. I've reinstalled steam, reinstalled windows, verified the cache and made sure it is not an isolated issue with one specific game since it happens with multiple games. i should also mention that i have checked event viewer and other than it reporting an APPCRASH event, it doesn't report any hardware related issues.

Thus i have come here to ask for any help i can in finding a solution to this problem. If any one can help me i would be forever grateful to be able to play games from my steam library again.

I would download Memtest86 and run it and make sure no errors. This sounds like a memory issue to me at first glance.

Sounds like a GPU crash issue to me, had similar years ago.  See if you can duplicate it with another game launcher like Epic or Ubisoft, etc.

Just tried paying satisfactory on Epic and the same thing was happening so i think you might have the right idea. this is the first time I've gotten it to replicate on a non-steam game. how did you end up fixing your issue when you had it?

  • 1 month later...

This just started happening to With the same combo of parts Thor / dark hero and 3090 fe

If I run the nvidia performance tune my gfx card - it trips the over current protection on the Thor as well as if I run prime95 small avx it will trip the power supply and shut down.

this isn’t supposed to happen - and doesn’t happen on intel platforms that I had it on before hand - albeit it was running on a c422 Xeon platform before i switched to AMD.

im calling for support from asus today on this - it’s been driving me crazy!
