Hey, just a question:

I'm very interested in investing in a Oclous Quest 2 for VR to play with,

I saw that to play steam VR games you need to use a link cable, and the price is 1/3 of the vr ontop of it to link it?

Is it okay to use a third party cable or will it slow it down?

Me and a couple members of my family have used third party link cables with no issues. Just make sure you're buying a cable with the correct specifications to ensure there aren't any compatibility issues. Also, if you do end up buying a quest 2, then welcome to the world of VR! I'd highly encourage you to consult the VR channel on the official LTT discord server where I and several other members are happy to assist anyone with VR related needs : )

The Oculus cable has the benefit of a fiber-optic cable that transmits the signal quickly along with a copper cable for charging. It's a pretty unique cable, and I bought it for the charging element, however I find myself using the wireless option with Virtual Desktop almost exclusively now. While the charging and length is nice, people don't typically play VR for longer than an hour, so it's not really needed. If I could do it again, I would save the $80 and buy Virtual Desktop for $20 then SideQuest the wireless add-in option.

You don't need the link cable specifically, there is a lot of cables that just work.

However i would suggest if you have a good wireless network in your house to get Virtual Desktop instead so you can just do everything wirelessly. 1 have an original quest and cannot tell the difference between wired or wireless

Sadly my wifi is very unstable, resulting in sudden ping spikes, random shutdowns and sadness.

Will consider virtual deskstop when my starlink order is accepted.

I'm not talking about internet, just your home wireless LAN network. if you've got a router with a 5GHz wireless radio, then it should work depending on what is between the router and the headset

I will try this then.. I assumed it went over the internet but if it is over my LAN then it should be all well. Is there any negatives with going through virtual desktop?
