Hi all,

I am in the process of acquiring parts for a new PC build.  This will be the first PC build in nearly 2 decades when I built a Pentium III 300 Mhz machine.  Since that time I have cycled through PC desktops and a laptop.  My current machine is a mid-2012 MacBook Pro equipped with a 2.5 GHz Quad Core an upgraded 500GB SSD, and 16GB of RAM.  The MacBook Pro is really the only functioning machine that have.  Therefore I am starting from scratch.

I intend to use the new machine to run Adobe applications.  Specifically, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Premier Rush.  A two year ago my wife opened a business and the business shifted to a more online platform at the start the COVID pandemic.  In April of 2020, I began editing and rendering a 40 minute video every M-F.  As of January 2021, I have been editing and rendering two (2) 40 minute videos a day M-F.  My wife has told me that her business is expanding again and during the month of June I will need to edit and render three (3) videos per day.  The original video is created in 360P and exported in 720P using Rush.  [Full Adobe Premier does not function on my 9 year old MacBook Pro. Adobe Premier Rush is sluggish and the slider bar often does not function.] --> Video rendering a 40 min video is taking me 35+ minutes.

Note: My definition of edit is... clip and trim video, remove images of non-employees, add business logo in top right corner, and employee's names/titles in bottom left corner.

Okay with all that typed.  I understand that my budget is not small.  However, I am not interested in spending 2.5 hours per day waiting for videos to render.  Understanding that the graphics card and processor are in the critical path to me reducing my video rendering times and getting my evenings back.  I have decided that I would purchase a AMD Ryzen 9 3950 to be the centerpiece of my new build.  I am decided to go for max CPU processing power because I am struggling to find a GPU on the retail market in the $500 price range and I refuse to pay scalpers.  Perhaps I will score a AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT this week...  Laughable I know.

Storage:  I understand that I do not have much storage on this build.  I maintain video archive on Google Drive and on 1TB external SSD. I do not see a need for the additional PCIe Lanes on x570 boards.

On a final note, I know that I am paying a tax to have white case, power supply, and such.  This will make the machine fit in decor of the living room.

What are your thoughts?  Is 32GB of RAM enough? What am I missing?  My kids think this will be a gaming machine because it is powerful.  It will not be used as a gaming machine for many moons.

All the best,
  ~k_day
