So I got myself a ryzen 7 3800x while it was discounted.

But when I looked at the bios version required I noticed that I need the latest version which isn't recommended to download and install with my current core (summit ridge).(ryzen 5 1600)

in short i'm wondering if I install version p6.0 with my current cpu (ryzen 5 1600) and then install the new processor or do I install the new processor (3800x) and then install the bios update (if that even works).

I'm guessing I install new bios then cpu but I thought I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks in advance for any help!

In your case its going to be slightly more complex. Install a BIOS that supports both your 1600 and 3600x with your 1600 installed. Then remove the 1600 and install the 3600x, once you confirmed it'll boot id then suggest installing the latest full release BIOS to improve system stability.

Version 5.40 was the first version to support gen 3, although it appears as the 3800x is an exception as it says "since version 6.00" unlike the rest of gen 3 which is version 5.40. My problem is that I cannot update to 6.00 on my 1600 or i'll most definitely break something.. I'm currently on version 5.4 which supports other gen 3 processors although I'm thinking since they run on the same family "Matisse" then the 3800x should at least be stable enough to post and to update to version 6.0?

Anyway i'm thinking I should install the new cpu with version 5.40 and hope that the system is stable enough to post and update to version 6.0 (please correct me if im wrong)
