Help understanding SAS compabilities

i bought myself a used HP storageworks ultrium 3280 SAS (only bought it because it was cheap like 15$), but found myself a problem since this is my first server grade computer hardware.

I'm thinking of buying a cheap used SAS card and found an HP smart array e500 with its cable the AN975A but are they compatible? they are both using the sfu8088 cable, and the e500 has an old driver from ~2008

YOu probably want a hba here, not a raid card, as your not running a sas drive in raid, but it should work with that controller.

hba card is pretty uncommon in my country, do you think a raid card would work just aswell? maybe i should just sell this lto reader again hahaha
