Hello,

In a few days, I'm going to purchase an 840 Evo 250GB and installing windows 8.1 or 7 and would like to know what I would need to do in order for all the links such as documents and the desktop shortcuts to be on the new OS's desktop from my hard drive so i would have my shortcuts from the windows from the hard drive and when I click documents ect on Windows Explorer it goes to the HDD.

Cheers,

Mark.

well, I would install a fresh version of windows on the new SSD ( while the old HDD is unplugged). Maybe before you set up the SSD you can create a partition on the HDD and then move documents and pictures there instead of having them in the library, so that you can format your old windows installation directories and when you restart the PC you can hook up the HDD and you should see it in the explorer or you have to go to diskconfig and set the HDD up, since it's not where the current version of windows is installed anymore. Now if you created the partition you are going to see the old windows partition and also the partition with your files. you can then manually set up the shortcuts which is very easy. Once everything is running alright ( after 1 week) I would format your old windows install and then add the space to your files partition so that you have one big one :)

I hope I understood what you meant and this is what you wanted to know.

There was a program I used a while back for when I made a partition for windows 8 and when I clicked the documents folder, it went to the documents on the windows 7 partition. I think I also copied my "C:\Users\Mark\Desktop" to my windows 8 partition so I was able to use the shortcuts, But I don't think most of them worked due to the new OS.
