New build - No post

Go to solution Solved by Oliverjee,

I ended up taking it in to a PC聽shop as I completed all the steps above and it still wasn't posting.聽

Posting this as to help others having this issue, the above steps should have worked but due to it being my first build I screwed up while assembling, which I didn't catch even while rebuilding it a few times.

What went wrong?

I Didn't click the RAM in correctly聽馃槄

I built my first PC yesterday, The build does not post, it powers up, fans and LEDs turn on.

The DRAM and CPU light are lit on the Motherboard.聽

I have taken it apart and rebuilt 3 times now, still no post.

I cannot seem to fix the issue and worry I have a faulty piece of hardware.

I have no parts that I can swap out with to check.

What I have tried in order to troubleshoot

- I have checked CPU pins and placement.

- I have made sure the CPU plug from the PSU is in the motherboard correctly.

- I have tried the RAM sticks individually, and made sure they're clicked in.

- I have checked all motherboard connections.

- I have tried both HDMI and DVI connections.

Have you also tried putting the RAM (only one stick) in each slot? I had a problem with my MB so I couldn't use the correct slots only use slot 1 so I had to RMA it.

EDIT: Did a little research and from what I found I would suggest that you try these things:

Make sure the RAM is compatible. I checked for you and if these "F4-3200C16S-8GIS" are the ones you have it should work just fine, but make sure it's actually those because I read that someone got shipped the wrong ones. Also *again* make sure they're entirely pushed into their slots. As in you should hear a distinct click.

If this doesn't work then clear the CMOS by removing the circular battery located on your motherboard. Make sure the PC is turned off and remove the power cord, leave the battery out for 30-60 seconds and put it back in and try again.

If none of this works out for you then just reply to me and we'll take it from there.

ram in slots 2 and 4? monitor connected to the gpu?

In his attached picture the RAM is seated correctly. Unless this specific MOBO requires the RAM to be seated differently that is.

Also he said he has tried both HDMI and DVI, even if he did actually plug it into the motherboard it should at least post and not show any MB errors, if that was the only issue here.

I鈥檝e had this happen to me, easy fix for me but may not be for you. I鈥檓 in the US, so we have 120V AC, wherever you are you may have 220V or 240V AC,

but the only reason I couldn鈥檛 post was because my PSU was trying to pull 220VAC instead of 120VAC. I flipped the voltage regulator and it worked fine

I have tried both individual RAM in all slots, and yes that serial for the RAM is on the sticks I am also making sure I hear distinct clicks before turning on.

I am very new to PCs and can not figure out how to remove the CMOS battery, since your comment I have searched online and can't find a tutorial for this specific motherboard, and other methods I'm seeing are not working. How should I remove it?

Pull back on the metal pin that you see on the bottom, if you press that it should "slide" out if you see what I mean.

Might be a long shot but if the CMOS thing doesn't work then you can try and loosen the CPU cooler a bit. It has happened that people overtighten it and that causes a slight bend on the motherboard and in turn that can mess stuff up. It should be firm but not to tight.

I am struggling more than necessary with the CMOS, it is midnight here so I shall be trying again first thing in the morning, if that does not fix the issue I shall try resitting the CPU cooler and get back to you 馃檪
