Just a quick question the wifi adapter i have for my pc is a 300 mbs one if i buy one that can support up to 1000 mbs will i see a significant increase in wifi speed for my pc. My rig currently downloads games at 3-5 mbs my dads rig runs at 10-25 mbs but he has a built in wifi adapter in his pc( forgot to mention this running a stock shaw modem)

That depends on your WiFi access-point. Both the access-point and your WiFi-adapter need to be able to handle faster speeds, not just one or the other. Also, you didn't mention your Internet-speeds: if your Internet-connection can't handle faster speeds, then a fast access-point and a fast WiFi-adapter will still not help with your downloads.

I have no clue what speed my access point is

There's a label on it somewhere that says what manufacturer made it and what model it is.

Flip it, on the back would say something about the manufacturer of the modem, like Huawei, Motorola, Zte etc.

You can't go any faster than what the modem supply to you, as fast you can go probably like your dad.

If the modem has only 500mbps you can't go faster than that, so using a 1000mbps will not going to help.

There are many factors for what your wifi speed getting, most of the time it's the distance from the modem.
