Ok so bit of a long one but I have been having issues for a couple weeks now with my pc.

Specs:

I7-5820k

MSI X99 SLI plus

Gigabyte 3070 master

32gb (4x8) ddr4 2400mhz RAM

1tb sabrent nvme

1tb ssd

2x6tb hard drives (now removed)

1000W evga 80plus platinum

Originally I had a 1080 but it died. I installed a 3070. It had some initial issues but did a ddu and re instal. This was ok for a few days and all the stress tests I did said everything was fine.

Couple days later it starts crashing. Updated bios and we installed drivers. Ok for a day then started again.

Then while looking into the error pc got stuck on a blue screen cycle on boot up and couldn't even get into recovery so used usb to instal windows (formatted all drives to ensure it was a complete new instal). Windows couldn't install so removed all drives and usb and it installed on my m.2. Then ran the software made by the sad manufacturer to check for ssd issues. Managed to get everything updated and installed. Ran 3dmark as one of my tests to check system and it crashed then got stuck on another boot cycle , irql error with the nvdmmdsk error. Rolled back pc, ran ddu just in case and re installed drivers. Once again it was fine for a short time then again crashed.

At this point I don't know what to try. I understand I probably messed up drivers or somthing in the initial stages but i have reset windows ans the cmos and windows still crashes on boot.I can't find a hardware fault, the graphics card still displays on the moniter.

Honestly you may have jumped the gun trying to reinstall everything.

Pull the 3070, and pull sticks 1 and 3. Connect your monitor to the onboard GPU port (one of the benefits of having Intel's iGPU).

I would bet that your stability problems are fixed by this. If they are not, then swap the two ram sticks in the system for the two you've pulled and see if that fixes it. If possible, go into the bios and disable your ram overclocks. If it's still a problem you likely have a CPU or motherboard problem. You could try reseating all the connectors and drives, if it's still a problem, then consider replacing the CPU and motherboard.

If all of this did solve the problem, start adding things back in until the instablity starts happening again. This will help you dial in exactly what is causing the problem.

The 5820K doesn't have an iGPU.

I mean the 3070 is under warranty but I want to ensure it is hardware before having to send it of and not have my pc running for god knows how long.

As for the re-install I had no choice, the system crashed before recovery could even run so was stuck with just the bios. After the windows re-install it worked for a few hours, ran a couple of component checkers and they all reported good.

Due to my 1080 dying I had been monitoring my 3070 for a few days with hwinfo and it never broke 74° even when under load and overclocking.

I don't mind having done something wrong but I had to use the last of my savings to get the 3070, which is fine if it's what's died as it's still under warranty but everything else is a good 5 years old now.

So upon some more checks, I can reliably get into windows, but when I try install Nvidia drivers it crashes. But I managed to install them earlier and they where fine?

At this point I am leaning towards rma but I hear gigabyte is terrible so if there's any other maybes I'm all ears XD
